Aussies set record for Mobile
Barcode Ticketing
It was to be expected that visitors to
Australia’s premier Information Technology trade event, CeBIT,
would be quick to embrace mobile phone ticketing, but a world
record in Sydney took even the organisers by surprise.
At CeBIT Australia 2005, part of the
largest consumer electronics and technology exhibition series
in the world, we issued 13,000 m-tickets direct to attendees’
mobile phones when they pre-registered online. This
represented 30 per cent of attendees requesting their badges
as a mobile ticket.
"This is the first time
m-ticketing has been used for a CeBIT exhibition and it is a
world record for m-ticketing," says Jo-Anne Kelleway, a
Director of Info Salons . "The mobile
ticketing technology for CeBIT Australia was developed by our
partner AURA Digital Communications on information gathered by
Info Salons."
"The m-ticket solution
dramatically improved our badge fulfilment process. Attendees
said they liked the convenience of mobile tickets,"
said Jo-Anne.
Adam Dunne, Sales & Marketing Director
for AURA, said his company was constantly monitoring the
international market for m-ticketing solutions and there was
no doubt that the CeBIT result was a world record.
"We were delighted with
the result. We see this as the way of the future for trade and
public exhibitions." said Adam.
The Managing Director of Hannover Fairs,
Jackie Taranto was pleasantly surprised by the uptake of
m-ticketing for this year’s show.
"We found that the number of visitors using
the barcode m-ticket services exceeded our expectations by 10%
and with more than 82% of all Australians owning a mobile
phone, m-ticketing is the trend of the future. We’ll be
definitely using this technology next year and were also
delighted that CeBIT Australia was the vehicle for the world
record m-ticketed event."

Info Salons managed the pre-selling of
tickets to The Sydney Home Show in May for the first time,
with visitors taking the opportunity to prepay online and
avoid onsite cashier queues.
Info Salons also assisted with the
membership drive for the Home Show Club and produced a barcode
membership badge within an email reminder. The visitor simply
printed their email prior to attending the show.
Bernadette Neumann Group Exhibition Manager
Home Interest for DMG World Media, owners of the Sydney Home
Show, said the Home Show Club not only provided members with a
wide array of benefits, it also allowed the organisers to cut
back on expensive printing and postage of promotional
material.
"Certainly the selling
of tickets ahead of the show and the ability to market our
event via email is the way of the future, though we are still
to determine how it will fully roll out," said
Bernadette. The next Sydney Home
Show runs 18-21 May 2006 at the Sydney Convention &
Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour.
